HarperCollins India, in association with Habitat Film Festival, presented HARPER @ CINEMA, a first-of-its-kind event organized by an Indian book publisher, that celebrated cinema and books with masterclasses, conversations and music with quite a few renowned names of the Indian film industry.

There were workshops and masterclasses with Rakesh Omprakash Mehra, Vishal Bhardwaj, Rekha Bhardwaj and the legendary Gulzar.

The most mesmerizing session was that of Rekha Bhardwaj, who while describing her life struggles during a candid discussion, sung most of her hit songs including ‘Namak Ishq Ka’, ‘Kabira’, ‘Genda Phool’, ‘Darling’, among others.

Bhardwaj’s session had the audience hooked completely. “Sorrows and struggles are a part of an artiste’s journey”, said the singer who has seen rejection and dejection in the beginning of her career and today, she takes pride in it.

However, she also mentioned of the fact that happy times bring worry for the singer. “Agar gaane mein dard nahi aayega toh gaana achha nahi record hoga.. (if there’s no pain in the song, it won’t come out well)”, she shared.

The acclaimed singer also revealed that her father is the reason why she has a good command on Hindi because he had studied in a Urdu-medium school and was always strict with her on pronunciations and use of language.
